6th Street Roundabout Work to Begin Sept. 16
The City of Glenwood Springs will be starting the 6th Street roundabout area landscaping installation work on Monday, Sept. 16. This first phase will run through mid-November, weather depending, and will install irrigation, electrical, lighting, decorative boulders, trees, sod, and ornamental grasses throughout the project site, which includes adjacent islands and the approach to the pedestrian underpass under the ramp from westbound I-70.

As of 3 p.m. on August 29 the perimeter of the Sunrise Court Fire has been reinforced and declared 100% controlled.

Police chief selection committee to hear from the community September 3
The City of Glenwood Springs will hold a special City Council meeting on Tuesday, September 3 at 6 p.m. in Council Chambers at City Hall.
Power Outages for No Name Area
Xcel Energy will be replacing transmission poles in the No Name area during the week of August 26. The Glenwood Electric powerline serving No Name is attached to some of the poles that will be replaced. In the interest of workers’ safety, Glenwood Electric will be scheduling power outages on all of No Name so work can be completed safely and efficiently.

At 1:08 p.m. on August 20, 2019, Glenwood Springs Fire Department was dispatched to a reported residential structure fire at 516 W. 12th Street.

South Midland and Park West Asphalt Work
The City of Glenwood Springs continues street maintenance scheduled for this summer with asphalt work scheduled for South Midland Avenue on Monday, August 12 and Tuesday, August 13. South Midland work will be followed by asphalt work in the Park West neighborhood Tuesday, August 13 through Thursday, August 15.
City Facilities Closure for Employee Picnic
Glenwood Springs City Hall and Community Center will be closed on Friday, August 9 from 12-2 p.m. for an employee appreciation picnic.
Police Chief Terry Wilson Announces Retirement
The City of Glenwood Springs’ Police Chief, Terry Wilson, has announced his retirement plans after 35 years with the department. Chief Wilson will officially retire on February 1, 2020.

Chip and Seal Work Continues Week of July 22
The City of Glenwood Springs continues street maintenance scheduled for this summer with several residential streets near in the downtown core getting chip seal work July 22-26.
Three Mile Creek Confluence Project Open House
The City of Glenwood Springs invites the community to participate in the planning efforts for the Three Mile Creek and Roaring Fork River confluence at an open house on Saturday, July 20 from 10AM-2PM. Community members are welcome to drop in anytime during the open house that will be held on site of the project, just off the Atkinson Trail near the Three Mile Creek and Roaring Fork River confluence.
Midland Bridge Closure July 19-20
The Midland Bridge, located on Midland Avenue between Devereux Road and the exit 114 roundabout, will be closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic on July 19 and 20. Asphalt work to re-deck the bridge will be occurring during this closure. The Colorado River and the Whitewater Park will remain open.
Sayre Park Community Open House July 11
The second Sayre Park Community Open House will be on Thursday, July 11 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Community Center. The draft master plan for Sayre Park improvements will be presented for community input. The landscape architecture team of Zehren and Associates will present an overview of the project process, findings, and recommendations at 6:00 and 7:00 p.m
Railroad Building Demolition
Contractors will begin demolition of the Railroad Motorway building west of City Hall on July 11.

Ross Lawsuit Against City of Glenwood Springs Dismissed
Ninth Judicial District Court Judge Denise K. Lynch on May 29, 2019, dismissed a lawsuit filed by Ross Dress for Less against the City of Glenwood Springs challenging the city’s passage of resolutions establishing an Urban Renewal Authority at the West Glenwood Mall and approving the West Glenwood Springs Urban Renewal Authority Plan. Judge Lynch dismissed the amended complaint in its entirety with prejudice.
Glenwood Springs to have 100% renewable electricity on June 1, 2019
Glenwood Springs, Colorado, joins an elite group June 1, 2019, as it becomes the seventh city in the U.S. to be powered by all renewable energy. Glenwood Springs City Council unanimously approved resolution 2019-22 at the April 18, 2019, City Council meeting to purchase all of Glenwood Springs Electric’s electricity from clean wind power from the Municipal Energy Agency of Nebraska (MEAN).

FMLD Awards $200,000 grant to Cedar Crest Improvement Project
The City of Glenwood Springs will receive $200,000 from Garfield County’s Federal Mineral Lease District’s (FMLD) spring 2019 grant cycle, according to an April 17 announcement by the FMLD. The money awarded from this grant will be used for the Cedar Crest Roadway, Drainage and Water Line Repair Project in West Glenwood Springs.
