Community Discussion: Paid Street Parking Downtown

Monday, April 24, 2017

The City of Glenwood Springs has been studying parking needs and challenges in our downtown corridor. In this area, there is often a shortage of on-street parking spaces, as the time-limited free parking downtown has proven to be inadequate in managing the city’s parking inventory efficiently. When drivers are unable to find a parking spot, they tend to circle around, adding to congestion, air pollution, and distracted driving. To address this parking shortage, the City is considering implementing a fee for on-street parking in the downtown area. There will be a community meeting to discuss this possibility on April 24. The City wants to know how residents feel about parking meters or pay stations being installed Downtown. The community meeting will cover topics, such as: why the City is interested in pursuing paid parking; available technology options and costs; and possible locations for a pilot program.
